LIS6Tools Overview

LIS6Tools is a custom extension for ArcView 3.x.  It was developed to assist local governments with day-to-day land information tasks. Its purpose is to aid the task of locating land parcel, road, or address features within a countywide GIS database and displaying them along with any associated legal and owner information.

The functionality of LIS6Tools is designed to be simple. Minimal user input is required to begin any search. For instance, to find and create a map of a particular land parcel, one can do so by simply entering a geocode, a tax-id number, a physical address, or an owner’s name. Roads or structure addresses can also be quickly located and displayed by entering a portion of the search criteria.

LIS6Tools allows you to overlay other available GIS data layers with any feature found in the search process. Additional tools are provided to determine Latitude/Longitude, search by Latitude/Longitude, list neighboring parcel owners, and list documents.

LIS6Tools is not intended to edit or create data. Its purpose is to simply find something. Other extensions that work in conjunction with LIS6Tools are available to create and edit certain GIS data layers and attributes.

You can use LIS6Tools to search for the following:
  • Parcels (by way of Tax-ID, Geocode, Owner Name, Physical Address, and Legal Description)
  • Address Locations
  • Roads
  • PLSS (Township - Range - Section)
  • Landmarks
  • Streams
  • Coordinates (Latitude/Longitude)
  • Incorporated Town Areas
  • Survey Plat or Lot Extents

Searching for something is the bailiwick of LIS6Tools.   The "binoculars" button is the easiest way to get there.

LIS6Tools will search for all records (in the county's tabular database) that contain the text that is typed into the box to build this list.   It will then use the Tax-ID from the selected record to search for the associated parcel.   If you opt to search for ALL parcels owned by that person, LIS6Tools will build a list of Tax-ID numbers and use that to select the parcels.   In the resulting Map View, you will be given the opportunity to cycle through each of those found parcels.   (We won't do that now.)
